Date Created: circa 1940

Donor: John Sowa

Media Type: Photograph

Language: English

Backstory:

This interior view of the South Shore Inn, a popular local tavern located at 13611 Brainard in Hegewisch, was taken in the early 1940’s. South Shore Inn was located close to the South Shore Railroad station and also near the end of the line for the Hegewisch trolley at Brandon and Brainard. Many commuters stopped to “unwind” after work before going home. Notice the spittoon by the second bar stool. It was one of oldest bars in Hegewisch that was continuously owned by a single family until its recently closed.
