Backstory:

The Popovich Brothers were a family of musicians from South Chicago. They were also one of the most famous and beloved Serbian tamburitza ensembles in the United States The brothers began playing together in 1926 when their mother sent them as children on a tour of isolated Serbian mining and steel mill communities throughout the Midwest and West. In 1976, twelve hundred Serbian-Americans from around the United States came to Chicago to celebrate the Popovich Brothers’ 50th anniversary of making music. They would play together for 75 years and release a number of records. A documentary film entitled “The Popovich Brothers of South Chicago” was made about the group in 1977.
