Backstory:

The Polka Home Style Sausage Store featured Polish food and catered to the large Polish community of South Chicago. It was best known for polish sausage (kielbasa) and pierogi (polish dumplings). It was located across the street from Immaculate Conception church, the oldest Polish parish on the Southeast Side. Over time, the store developed other branches including one at 10528 Ewing on the East Side and a couple in the south suburbs. For many years, the establishment was a regular vendor at such popular summer food festivals as the Taste of Chicago and the Whiting Pierogi Fest in neighboring Indiana.
