Backstory:

The White Kitchen restaurant operated at the foot of 89th street near the South Works general offices and was frequented by office workers. Restaurant work was a common occupation for women. The White Kitchen is pictured here in April 1941 shortly before the American entry into World War II. The prices reflect Depression-era economics. Wartime inflation and economic activity soon brought price increases.
