Date Created: circa1908

Donor: Emil E. Butalla

Media Type: Photograph

Backstory:

The milkman was a familiar figure in the early days of Southeast Chicago and other neighborhoods. Milk, eggs, and other dairy products were delivered to the door of residents’ homes. This postcard photo of Herman Galla and his milk wagon in 1908 was taken on 88th Street in South Chicago. In later years, the horse and wagon were replaced by the milk truck before disappearing entirely.
