Backstory:

Kolo is a Slavic word meaning circle that is used by Serbians, Croatians, Poles and others. It is sometimes used to describe a folk dance performed by men and women holding hands to form a large circle. The kolo here refers to a group founded in 1926 at St. Michael’s Serbian Orthodox Church, then located at 98th and Commercial Avenue in South Deering. The name of the group translates as the “Circle of Serbian Sisters.” The photo was taken in 1934.
