Bird Specimen from Wolf and Hyde Lakes

Description:

A tray with an assortment of bird specimen collected from Wolf and Hyde Lakes between 1890 and the 1920s by collectors including H.B. Conover and H. Stoddard. Birds include the Black-crowned night heron, the Least Bittern, a Red Knot (canutus canutus), two short-billed Dowitchers (limnodromus griseus), and more.

Hyde Lake was a small lake connected and adjacent to Wolf Lake (near the site of what would become Republic Steel). It was filled in and no longer exists.
